Description
This is a rare vintage cardboard box featuring the artwork of Ludwig Bemelmans, a famous world-traveling painter, illustrator and writer for both children and adults. The box was created for the ladies and children’s wear Peck & Peck Department store on Fifth Avenue in New York City, a store that sold their own labeled goods, likely for Christmas, since art is about angels and people shopping and piles of presents. The box, in blue with white and black illustrations on paper adhered to the cardboard box, with red ribbon painted on, measures approximately 8” by 5 ½” across the top and 3” inches deep. It is in good vintage condition with some wear to many of the edges and some of the scenes around each side. Still, rare and totally charming.
