    Description

NATIVE AMERICAN Ca. 1800 IRON AX WITH INDIAN BLACKSMITH NAME/MAKER'S MARK ("HAPON")
RARE! TO BE ABLE TO STATE WITH CERTAINTY THAT AN 18TH-EARLY 19TH
    CENTURY MASSIVE IRON BLACKSMITH FORGED
AX WAS DEFINITELY NATIVE AMERICAN--NOT AS A TRADE ITEM,
BUT TELLING FROM THE MAKER'S MARK "HAPON"
A DESIGNATION TO A TRIBAL MEMBER--WAS INDIAN MADE!
THIS MASSIVE AX WEIGHING  4    POUNDS HAS A LARGE EYE MOST
TYPICAL OF AXES FOUND IN NORTHERN AREAS, STRETCHING INTO CANADA.
AS SHOWN, THE SURFACE IS BEAUTIFULLY AGED WITH A MIX OF BLACK OXIDE,
A NATURAL PATINA, AND THE GREY OF THE IRON SHOWING THROUGH. ONLY VERY MINOR SURFACE WEAR ADDS CHARACTER TO THIS
WONDERFUL RELIC. FURTHER CHARACTERIZING IT AS NATIVE AMERICAN
    IS THE LATERALLY GROOVED
ARROW-HEAD LIKE PROJECTION DOWN ONE EDGE--A STYLISTIC TRAIT ALMOST
EMBLAMATIC OF NATIVE AMERICAN EDGED WEAPONS AND AXES.
    FINALLY, THE BIT ITSELF HAS
    NEVER
BEEN RESHARPENED OR, TO MY EYE RESTORED
IN ANY WAY. NOR HAS THE POLL, WHICH  SHOWS NO MUSHROOMING FROM USE AS A HAMMER.
INTERIOR OF THE EYE ONE NOTES TWO SMALL FISSURES WHERE THE BLACKSMITHS
SEAM MAY NEVER HAVE FULLY MELDED, OR AGE MAY HAVE SIMPLY TAKEN ITS TOLL.
THEY DO NOT EXTEND THE LENGTH OF THE EYE OR BREACH THE SURFACE.
DIMENSIONS: 7 INCHES LONG  BIT 4 3/4 INCHES WIDE
    WEIGHT 4 POUNDS
    GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC
