Description
Up for sale is an amazingly carved antique Museum De-accession, Native American Mohican (it is possible it could be Mohegan) Root War or Ceremonial Club, circa probably 1840's or possibly earlier. Recently purchased from a major auction house museum De-accession sale, it features a great patina consistent with age and use. It is in outstanding condition with no major defects noted aside from the wear to the patina where a hand could grip it as described in the full condition report above. There are natural areas shadas and tones in the wood with well worn knots that look simply amazing along with a carved handle that features numerous scores in the wood to assist in the grip at the base while adding to the artistry. It measures approximately 27" long x 3 1/2" wide at the base, with a nice grip and heavy feel to it. This piece is an outstanding example for any collection or museum acquisition with great historical value. The provenance/ownership history is as follows. It was evaluated and sold by a major auction house as part of a multi-museum collection from various museums in Western and Central Pennsylvania including some items from the City of Harrisburg, PA. I do not know which particular museum it came from but it is one of two I purchased at the same sale. Thanks for looking and please see my other listings for more premium antiques and fine art.
