This uncirculated One Crown coin was commissioned by Gibraltar to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the first man on the moon in 1969. It depicts the moon lander preparing to set down on the Lunar surface with the Apollo XI command module, named Columbia, above, and the Earth distant and moon-like in the background. It was on July 20, 1969, that a human first set foot on another celestial body. Neil A. Armstrong took the Small Step from the Lunar Module, named Eagle, onto the surface of the Moon. Along with fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin he remained on the lunar surface until the next day collecting rocks and marveling at their accomplishment. Astronaut Michael Collins manned the command module with which Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin successfully docked in preparation for their triumphant return to Earth.
